Joan Velasquez releases new single ‘Sirang Kaluluwa’

Each person has an own definition of what love is; for Joan Velasquez, a local artist from the Philippines, love is when someone accepts you and makes you feel complete despite all of the scars from your history. She recently put this idea into her music and released her original song "Sirang Kaluluwa" on all music streaming platforms.


Joan’s recent single is different from her previous songs about sadness. She was inspired from her co-local artists ALYSSA’s ‘Lahat’ and Johnoy Danao’s ‘Ikaw at Ako’ which are both known great OPM love songs nowadays.

When asked about the writing process Joan shared it took her eight to nine months to finish the song along with the help of her co-artist Ian Quiruz. 

 “Kung irerelease ko ‘yong lahat-lahat ng sinulat ko, siguro the song would run for 8 minutes. Ganoon siya kahaba. I am a sweet, clingy person so I guess dito ko nasabi yung mga bagay na gusto kong sabihin sa inner child ko, sa kuya ko, sa mga kaibigan ko, and to that “one” na hindi ko pa siguro namimeet.” 

Joan's song, which was recorded at home, was arranged by Ian Mabulac of Millennium's Finest.

Meanwhile, the song’s title was about her perspective on growing old and having our inner-child wounds that are hard to heal and even damage us further. Joan said that is what makes it a sirang kaluluwa which means damaged soul.

“Minsan nakakainis kasi yung inner child mo ipaparamdam sa'yo na hindi mo deserve ng pagmamahal. Pero kailangan mo talaga ng kamay na mahahawakan, metaphorically. ‘Yong ipaparamdam sa'yo na may kasama ka at magiging panatag ka.” Joan added.

Mendira.net artists recently released their company’s jingle “Kaya Mo Yan” featuring Tiports, Valkyrie Cabalo, and Rexxx on all music-streaming platforms with a goal of inspiring artists.
