Aspire, Believe, and Dance
— Ivan Balaccua
Passion is the reason why we thrive and strive for greatness, it is the reason why we don’t stop doing the things we love. Joshua Navarro, an aspiring dancer from Marikina City, shows what it’s like to be passionate for something you love.
Back in 2016, his school requirements involved dancing and it turned out to be a hobby for him. He immediately fell in love with the art and according to him, it was the best decision he made in his life. Right after his first performance for their school project, he told himself that this is the path for him.
Dancing opened a lot of opportunities for Joshua. He became part of a dance group called Histacity Mega Fam, and they participated in different dance tournaments and won several awards such as:
World of Dance Manila 2018, 1st runner up
World Supremacy Battlegrounds 2018, 1st runner up
Histacity Choreo Wars, Champion
Vast 2019, 1st runner up
One Night Stuff Vol.1, 1st runner up
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone; mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Joshua wasn’t an exception, and his only outlet for his emotions was dancing. Even before the pandemic, his euphoria was and will always be dancing.
Joshua isn’t your typical dancer. He is dedicated to his love and passion for dancing, and he constantly practices to become better every single day. This is what makes him unique. A lot of people see struggles and challenges as a sign to stop and give up, but not for him. He sees these as obstacles that he needs to overcome in order to improve.
We asked Joshua, if there was someone who really wanted to dance, or someone who is about to give up on dancing, what would you tell them? This was his reply:
“Dance is for everyone! Dance offers endless opportunities and priceless moments that you will remember for the rest of your life. As a person who has been in the dance scene in the past consistent years, I can say that everything in dancing is a rollercoaster ride worth taking. But keep in mind that we, dancers, can't convince someone to dance if they are not interested in it. You should be interested at least and let dance do its magic.
Struggling is normal, so is resting! Rest and take your time. Dance will always be the best among the rest who will be there for us in times of need. We will be connecting once again right after this pandemic so, keep holding on my friend! Take the rest you need, refocus your goals and train once you are ready. I'll see you in the limelight someday!”.
Passion is the reason why Joshua strives for greatness, the reason why he doesn’t give up on dancing. Passion is what brings out the best in us.
